Measure at Home Using a Ruler

Materials Needed

• A ruler with millimeter markings.
• A mirror or a friend to assist.

Procedure

1. Stand in front of a mirror or have a friend assist you.
2. Hold the ruler horizontally against your brow.
3. Close your right eye and align the ruler's zero mark with the center of your left pupil.
4. Look straight ahead while keeping the ruler steady.
5. Have your friend read the measurement where the center of your right pupil aligns with the ruler.
6. Repeat the process a few times to ensure accuracy.

Note

If using a mirror, make sure you're looking directly into the mirror, not at the ruler itself.

Measure at Home Using a Printed PD Ruler:

Materials Needed

• A printed PD ruler (available online).
• A mirror.

Procedure

1. Print a PD ruler from a reliable source.
2. Stand about arm's length away from a mirror.
3. Hold the ruler against your forehead, aligning the zero mark with the center of your right pupil.
4. Look straight ahead, keeping the ruler steady.
5. Have the mirror reflect the image of your left eye. Adjust the ruler until the center of your left pupil aligns with a number on the ruler.
6. The number where your left pupil aligns is your PD measurement.

Note

Ensure that the printed ruler is not scaled or distorted during printing. Print it at 100% scale.

Remember, the accuracy of your PD measurement is crucial for the correct positioning of your eyeglass lenses. If you have any doubts or difficulties measuring your PD at home, it’s advisable to consult with an optician who can provide a precise measurement during an eye exam.
